Lecturer in Computer Science

The American University of Armenia (AUA) Akian College of Science and Engineering is seeking applicants for a faculty position in Computer Science. Hires will be made at the Lecturer level. Hired faculty will teach, mentor students, and if interested, conduct research in collaboration with colleagues locally and globally. Teaching is expected to be primarily in the Bachelors programs in Computer Science and Data Science (cse.aua.am), including courses in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics or related fields. All instruction is in English.

Job description:

Teaching courses in topics such as those listed below.  Active participation in the AUA faculty community.  Advising, mentoring, and teaching students (including teaching in a traditional classroom and/or online environment and student supervision or mentoring experience).  Developing teaching plans, designing, and preparing content for computer science/data/engineering sciences subjects including:

  • Group 1: Computer Architecture, Computer Networks and Communication, Operating System Principles, Parallel and Distributed Systems, Digital Systems.
  • Group 2: Introduction to Computer Science, Principles of Programming Languages, Programming Techniques, Object-Oriented Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Web Technology and Programming, Game Programming, Mobile Application Development.
  • Group 3: Database Foundations, Information Security, Artificial Intelligence, Software Technology, Software Development and Design, Data analytics, Machine Learning, Computer Vision and other related disciplines

Main Responsibilities

  • Conducting theoretical and practical teaching
  • Participating in professional development activities
  • Membership in academic committees
  • Guiding graduation capstone projects.
  • Undertaking other tasks assigned by the Program Chair(s) and/or Dean

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Applied Mathematics or equivalent fields.
  • Preference for those with teaching experience.
  • Pedagogical skills: Teaching using diverse and effective methods and techniques, incorporating information technology.

Compensation:  Compensation is commensurate with university-wide pay scale, qualifications and experience. AUA offers competitive benefit packages, including health insurance and a housing allowance for international faculty.
