Open Call: AUA Assistant Professorship Program
The American University of Armenia invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor. The academic field of specialization is open.
Under the leadership of President Karin Markides, the university is in the process of a strategic transformation through which it is working to significantly enhance its impact on Armenia through world-class academic degree programs, research, and outreach. The hallmark of this transformation is the development of six open centers of excellence that will serve to showcase AUA teaching, research, and outreach through transdisciplinary perspectives. These open centers of excellence are the:
- Open Center of Excellence for Innovation Advancement
- Open Center of Excellence for Leadership and Governance
- Open Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence Solutions
- Open Center of Excellence for Systems Thinking
- Open Center of Excellence for Transformative Health Solutions
- Acopian Center for the Environment
AUA has areas of traditional disciplinary strength in our College of Business and Economics, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, and School of Public Health. Teaching, research, and outreach activities in these traditional disciplinary structures are also lifted into the open centers of excellence for display to Armenia and the world. An important feature of this approach – disciplinary excellence lifted into transdisciplinary space – is the development of reality labs through which we tackle complex problems through university-public-private partnerships in the regions. Presently we have reality labs working in the areas of agriculture reform, environmental protection, hospitality and tourism, and others.
These transformative, ambitious changes require a new approach to the recruitment of international academic research talent. AUA is looking for the world’s most promising assistant professors to help the university realize a new level of excellence in research and outreach with impact.
Successful candidates will receive the rank of assistant professor and will be housed in one of the academic colleges, though their primary responsibilities will be in service to one or more open centers of excellence. Successful candidates will also receive a pay and benefits package that includes a stipend for international faculty housing, reimbursement for home visits, relocation allowances, and traditional employment benefits.
Desired skills and experience:
- Early career researcher (post-doctoral fellow or equivalent)
- PhD degree in any discipline and preparation to enter university service as an assistant professor
- Strong potential for publication and the development of funded research opportunities
- Capacity to lead a research group and work independently
- Attraction to transdisciplinary and trans-stakeholder opportunities.
